Dried Hydrangeas Become a Source for Sakura Conservation

Take home a Mt. Shiude Hydrangea
Dry Flowers available beginning late July
A portion of the proceeds contributed towards sakura conservation efforts

In order to obtain the funds necessary to for the conservation of the world-famous sakura on Mt. Shiude, the Mitoyo Tourism and Exchange Authority has begun arranging the sale of dried hydrangeas from the mountain by local vendors. This endeavor began in 2020, and in 2022 there are three shops where the flowers will be available for purchase.

The sakura trees on Mt. Shiude are quite old and have become diseased. A great deal of conservation work is required to ensure the beauty of the site for years to come.

After the hydrangeas have passed their peak, they are dried and find new life as dry flowers. In 2021, the sale of dried hydrangeas combined with sakura conservation donations totaled ¥1,339,684! We are truely grateful for everyone’s kind generosity.
