Awashima Artists’ Village

The origins of humanity and the circle of life unite through breathtaking art

This space was created as a collaboration between Maki Ohkojima (Japan) and Mayur Vayeda (India) during their tenure as Artists-in-Residence on Awashima Island.
Vayeda's piece, titled "Cave Mural as Narrating the Story of Where We Came From," uses traditional Warli Art to tell the story of humanity's origins and progression. "The Story of a Whale Being Reborn as Oxygen" by Ohkojima focuses on the cycle of life and transformative rebirth through the death of a whale.
