Awashima Maritime Museum
Touch the past a Japan's oldest maritime school
The Maritime Museum is currently closed for repairs.
Opened in 1897 as Japan's first maritime school, it once trained sailors who embarked on careers that took them all across the ocean. It has been lovingly preserved since its closure in 1987. The 2-story wooden building that still stands was built in 1920 and now houses an exhibition of navigation-related materials.
