Donations for Sakura Conservation
The cherry trees on Mt. Shiude were planted over 60 years ago
and are reaching the end of their natural life span.
Additionally, many of them have become infected with witches’ broom disease,
which withers the branches over time.
These cherry trees are part of the local identity.
Help us preserve Mt. Shiude for future generations.
The Mitoyo Tourism and Exchange Authority collects funds
for the conservation of Mt. Shiude’s cherry trees each year.
In 2021, large-scale pruning was begun to ensure the longevity
of the ill and aging trees by encouraging them to put out new shoots and leaves.
However, this also means that the trees
will not be in the same state as pictured below for quite a while.
These conservation efforts will be ongoing for a number of years.
We appreciate your understanding.
▲ View from the summit observation deck
before infection and pruning.
▲ Each infected branch is pruned individually.
▲ Medicine is then applied to the pruned area.
We would like to thank our partners for their help
in funding the continuing conservation efforts on Mt. Shiude.
