Floating on the open sea near Mino-cho, Mitoyo is a small island shine, Tsushimajinja Shrine. The main purpose of the shrine is to pray for the health and longevity of children. While the bridge connecting the small shrine to the mainland is there all year, the boards forming the bridge are not, making the island inaccessible. The bridge is only traversable two days each year, on August 4th and 5th, when the shrine holds its Summer Festival. From early morning until late in the evening the bridge and small island are crowded with visitors.
The large influx of visitors is accommodated by the seasonal opening of the JR Tsushimanomiya train station a short walk from the bridge.
